You are not Alone
The Anxiety Skills Group is facilitated by Kara Ashley-Gilmore, a licensed counselor, art therapist, and Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner.
When you’re dealing with anxiety, you may feel like you are struggling to get through the day without falling apart. You may walk around pretending that everything is fine in front of friends, family, and colleagues, while secretly you’re battling inner voices of self-doubt, criticism, or fears that you’re going to fail, and the world will find out you are a fraud. This charade is exhausting and can leave you feeling drained at the end of the day–with no time or energy to put towards the people and things that make you happy.
The Anxiety Skills Group can give you some relief. By connecting with other people who are experiencing similar issues, you will feel understood, supported, and less isolated by your experience.
What do we do?
We spend time at the beginning of each session checking in about current stressors and what’s been working/not working over the past week. I then lead the group through a guided meditation, breathing exercise, or basic art activity to practice different ways of grounding ourselves to the present moment. There is a different lesson each week, along with discussions and a simple assignment, worksheet, or project, which helps to practice or integrate the lesson.
